What football management spin-off using the Madden engine debuted in August 2006?

The story behind the answer

The football management spin-off was NFL Head Coach, an EA Sports simulation built with the Madden engine. Instead of controlling plays directly, players managed an NFL franchise from the perspective of its head coach.

The game emphasized roster moves, staff hiring and firing, playbook creation, draft decisions, interviews, motivation, and long-term career development. Its career could span 30 seasons, beginning in 2006 and extending through 2036. Bill Cowher appeared on the cover.

NFL Head Coach is sometimes confused with NFL Head Coach 09, its later sequel. The original game was released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows, while the sequel was rebuilt with a proprietary engine and released in 2008. NFL Blitz, Madden Arcade, and NFL Street were different types of arcade or action-focused football games, not this management simulation.
