What film earned Robert Aramayo the 2026 BAFTA for leading actor?

The story behind the answer

Robert Aramayo won the 2026 BAFTA for Leading Actor for his performance in *I Swear*.

The British drama follows Mark, a man living with Tourette syndrome who becomes involved in campaigning and public advocacy. Aramayo’s performance earned him one of the evening’s biggest surprises, defeating a field that included Leonardo DiCaprio in *One Battle After Another*, Timothée Chalamet in *Marty Supreme*, Ethan Hawke in *Blue Moon*, Michael B. Jordan in *Sinners* and Jesse Plemons in *Bugonia*.

The result is sometimes confused with Aramayo’s other BAFTA success: he also won the EE Rising Star award, which is voted for by the public. Those were separate prizes. *I Swear* additionally won the 2026 BAFTA for Casting, making the film a double winner even though its leading-actor victory received the most attention. The ceremony took place on 22 February 2026 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
