The Piston Cup is the central championship trophy in the first Cars film. McQueen is a rookie race car tied with veteran racer Strip “The King” Weathers and rival Chick Hicks, leading to a three-way tiebreaker race in California.
The competition is fictional, but its presentation draws on American stock-car racing, especially NASCAR. The Dinoco brand is a sponsor associated with The King, which can cause viewers to call the prize the Dinoco Cup. That name is not the official trophy name in the film. McQueen also races for the Rust-eze team, but Rust-eze is his sponsor, not the championship.
