What emblem did Chevrolet introduce as its official logo in 1913?

The story behind the answer

Chevrolet introduced its bowtie emblem as its official logo in 1913.

The emblem is one of the most recognizable symbols in automotive history. Chevrolet advertisements and vehicles gradually made the gold-and-blue bowtie strongly associated with the brand, although early versions appeared in different colors and finishes.

The logo’s origin is disputed. William C. Durant reportedly noticed a pattern resembling the emblem in wallpaper at a Paris hotel, while another account connects it with a design from a coal company. Chevrolet has used several redesigns, but the basic horizontal bowtie shape has remained identifiable.

The bowtie should not be confused with Chevrolet’s older wordmark-only branding or with the separate Chevrolet truck nameplates used in some markets. The emblem also became prominent on racing cars, pickup trucks, and family vehicles, helping link the company’s varied products under one visual identity.
