After being passed over as Richmond’s women’s head coach in Ted Lasso season 4, Alice Chilton resigns.
Alice had been Rebecca’s backup choice if Ted declined the position, but she becomes assistant coach after Ted accepts. She feels that her football knowledge and experience have been overlooked, particularly because Rebecca favors Ted for the top job.
Her resignation is driven by professional frustration rather than by a new transfer or a permanent retirement from football. Ted’s curiosity about Alice’s history helps him understand the injuries and disappointments that shaped her coaching style. He then persuades her to return to the team.
The plot therefore has two distinct stages: Alice first tenders her resignation, then rejoins Richmond after Ted reaches out. Her departure is temporary, which is why “she resigns” is the precise answer rather than “she leaves football.”
