In Ted Lasso season 4, Roy Kent permits Beard to leave the men’s team and rejoin Ted.
Roy is managing Richmond’s men’s team when Ted returns to coach the women’s side. Beard remains involved with the men, but Roy allows him to depart so that he can work alongside Ted again.
The decision reflects the coaching relationships built across the series. Beard was Ted’s closest coaching partner from the beginning, while Roy moved from former player to coach and eventually took charge of Richmond. Season 4 therefore separates the men’s and women’s football storylines while preserving the original coaching partnership.
This fact can be confused with Beard’s personal choice or Ted’s appointment. Beard does rejoin Ted, but the specific authority allowing him to leave the men’s setup belongs to Roy, who is managing that team at the time.
