An 8.44-metre jump won the men’s long jump at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
The mark came from Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou, who captured his fourth successive European outdoor long-jump title. He produced the winning effort in the fourth round, after adjusting his approach and finding the distance needed to move clear of the field.
Tentoglou entered Birmingham as the reigning Olympic champion and one of the most consistent long jumpers in European athletics. His victory extended a sequence that began at Berlin 2018 and continued through Munich 2022 and Rome 2024.
The competition included several highly regarded challengers, including Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov and Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer. Tentoglou’s experience in major finals proved decisive as the event developed into a contest between established medal contenders and younger athletes.
The Birmingham result also brought Tentoglou’s total European championship gold-medal tally to seven when indoor and outdoor titles are counted. His four outdoor long-jump crowns place him among the event’s most dominant continental champions.
