Leonardo Fabbri won the men’s shot put at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham with a throw of 22.31 metres.
The Italian produced his winning mark in the third round. His first three valid throws were all good enough to have secured the title, underlining his control of the competition.
Fabbri defended the European title he had won in Rome in 2024. His training partner Zane Weir made it an Italian one-two by throwing 21.12 metres, while Sweden’s Wictor Petersson took bronze with 20.97 metres.
Birmingham’s winning throw was the second-longest winning mark in European Championship history at the time. Fabbri’s championship record remained his 22.45-metre throw from Rome, so 22.31 metres should not be mistaken for the championship record.
