Andreas Almgren won the men’s 10,000 metres at Birmingham 2026 in a championship-record 27:23.44.
The Swedish distance runner produced a dominant front-running performance at Alexander Stadium. He covered the second 5,000 metres in 13:17.74 and finished almost 20 seconds ahead of reigning champion Dominic Lobalu.
Almgren’s time broke a championship record that had stood since the 1978 European Championships in Prague. That made the performance one of the most significant statistical achievements of the Birmingham championships.
Jimmy Gressier of France won bronze after a sprint for the final podium place. The 10,000-metre race was held on 15 August 2026 and formed part of the late-week distance programme.
