Toy Story 5 is the sequel to which 2019 film?

Toy Story 5 is the sequel to Toy Story 4, the 2019 film. It is the fifth main installment in Pixar’s Toy Story series and follows the events of the fourth movie.

Toy Story 4 ended with Woody leaving Bonnie’s group of toys so he could help lost toys find owners, while Buzz, Jessie, and the others remained with Bonnie. The next film builds from that changed status quo, with Jessie leading Bonnie’s room and a new conflict involving a high-tech tablet toy.

The franchise’s numbering can cause confusion because Lightyear was released in 2022. Lightyear is a spin-off about the fictional space ranger who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy; it is not Toy Story 5 and does not occupy the fifth numbered position in the main series. Toy Story 5 is scheduled for theatrical release in 2026.
