The Lego Ninjago Movie is the third installment in The Lego Movie franchise.
Released in 2017, it follows The Lego Movie from 2014 and The Lego Batman Movie, which also arrived in 2017. It is both the franchise’s third theatrical film and its second spin-off. The film focuses on the young ninja Lloyd, whose secret identity is the son of the villainous Lord Garmadon.
The movie is based on Lego’s Ninjago property, which includes construction sets and the animated television series Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Its story and characters are designed as part of the broader Lego film universe, but it has its own setting, tone, and cast. Dave Franco voices Lloyd, while Justin Theroux voices Lord Garmadon and Jackie Chan voices Master Wu.
A common counting mistake comes from treating only the two films titled The Lego Movie as the franchise. The wider theatrical series also includes the Batman and Ninjago spin-offs. Counting those films by release order makes The Lego Ninjago Movie number three, followed by The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part as the fourth film overall.
