The Lego Ninjago Movie is based on which Lego theme?

The Lego Ninjago Movie is based on the LEGO Ninjago theme. The film adapts the established world of ninja heroes, elemental powers, vehicles, villains, and the fictional martial art of Spinjitzu.

LEGO Ninjago launched in 2011 alongside the animated television series Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Its central characters include Lloyd Garmadon, Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane, Nya, and their teacher Master Wu. The 2017 film reimagines these characters for a separate comedic movie continuity, so its story does not follow the television series exactly.

The movie was the third theatrical entry in The Lego Movie franchise and the second spin-off after The Lego Batman Movie. Viewers sometimes confuse Ninjago with the film-specific LEGO product line, but the film is based on the broader LEGO Ninjago theme; the movie line was released as merchandise tied to the film.
