The Lego Batman Movie is a spin-off of which film?

The story behind the answer

The Lego Batman Movie is a spin-off of The Lego Movie. It expands on the Batman character introduced in the 2014 animated film, where he was portrayed as a self-important but entertaining member of the Lego world.

The spin-off was developed after Batman became one of The Lego Movie’s most popular characters. Instead of retelling the superhero’s entire comic-book history, it focuses on his loneliness, his rivalry with the Joker, and his difficulty accepting a family. The story follows Batman as he reluctantly becomes responsible for Robin and works with Barbara Gordon.

Will Arnett returned to voice Batman, while Chris McKay directed the film. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed the original Lego Movie, served as producers. The two films share a playful visual style and common Lego-based universe, although The Lego Batman Movie concentrates almost entirely on Gotham City and DC characters.

It is not a sequel to The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. It is a separate spin-off released in 2017 between the two main-series films.
