On what date was Resident Evil Village first released?

The story behind the answer

Resident Evil Village was first released on May 7, 2021.

Capcom launched the game for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is the eighth main installment in the Resident Evil series, which is reflected in its alternate title, Resident Evil 8. The game continues Ethan Winters’s story after Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

The setting shifts from the Baker family’s Louisiana estate to a remote European village dominated by several powerful figures, including Lady Dimitrescu. Its marketing emphasized the village, its castle, and the mysterious events surrounding Ethan’s family.

Players sometimes confuse the first release date with later platform launches or special demonstrations. Capcom also released additional content after the main game, including the Winters’ Expansion in 2022. Those later releases do not change the original launch date. Resident Evil Village was also made available through cloud versions and other later editions, but May 7, 2021 remains its initial worldwide release date.
