On what date was Dark Souls first released in Japan?
Answer
September 22, 2011
Answer
September 22, 2011
Dark Souls was first released in Japan on September 22, 2011.
The game was developed by FromSoftware and published by Namco Bandai Games. It launched first for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, continuing the design approach established by FromSoftware’s 2009 game Demon's Souls.
Dark Souls later received regional releases in North America on October 4, 2011, and in Europe on October 7, 2011. A Windows version followed in 2012 as Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, adding the Artorias of the Abyss content.
The Japanese release date is sometimes confused with the game's North American or European launch dates. It is also distinct from the 2018 release of Dark Souls Remastered, which updated the original game for newer platforms rather than marking its debut.
