In Dark Souls, the area reached through the huge door behind the Taurus Demon is the Undead Parish.
The Taurus Demon is fought on a section of the Undead Burg’s battlements. After the battle, the player continues toward a large gate and enters the Undead Parish, an important early-game zone containing a church, a bell, and several routes into nearby areas. The transition introduces stronger armored undead and more complex vertical navigation.
The Undead Parish is also where the player can encounter Andre of Astora, the first major blacksmith available for many players. The area’s church houses the Bell Gargoyles, whose defeat allows the first bell to be rung. Players sometimes call the whole early route “the Burg,” but the Undead Burg and Undead Parish are separate named areas. The Parish connects to the Depths, Darkroot Garden, Sen’s Fortress, and other locations, making it one of the most important crossroads in the first half of the game.
