In Dark Souls, Vamos is the blacksmith who resides in the Catacombs.
Vamos is found in a lower section of the Catacombs, reached by dropping through parts of the area. His workshop is surrounded by bones and undead enemies, making his location easy to miss during a first playthrough. He is one of the game’s several specialized blacksmiths rather than a general replacement for every smith.
Vamos is particularly associated with fire and chaos weapon paths. He can ascend certain weapons to fire weapons and, after receiving the appropriate Ember, can create chaos weapons. Players often confuse him with Andre of Astora because both are encountered relatively early and both upgrade equipment. They serve different areas and upgrade specialties, however. The Giant Blacksmith is another separate character, located in Anor Londo and known for different upgrade services. Vamos’s placement also reinforces Dark Souls’ design of hiding useful NPCs inside dangerous, optional-looking routes.
