Answer
January 9, 2007
Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone on January 9, 2007.
Jobs presented the device during Macworld Conference & Expo at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. He described it as three products in one: a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, and an Internet communications device. The presentation became one of the most influential product launches in consumer-technology history.
The original iPhone combined a multi-touch display with cellular calling, text messaging, web browsing, email, music playback, and visual voicemail. It did not initially include the App Store; Apple added that software marketplace in 2008 through a later iPhone software update.
The device went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007. That retail date is often confused with the unveiling date. Jobs’s January presentation was the announcement, while June marked the beginning of sales.
