Need for Speed: Underground’s cover features Eddie’s Nissan Skyline GT-R from the BNR34 generation.
The BNR34 is the chassis designation for the R34-generation Skyline GT-R, one of the most famous Japanese performance cars of the late 1990s and early 2000s. In Underground, Eddie is the leader of the Eastsiders and the player’s principal rival, making his customized Skyline a prominent symbol of the game’s import-racing culture.
R32 and R33 are earlier Skyline GT-R generations, so they are plausible but incorrect alternatives. R35 is the especially common mix-up: the R35 is a later Nissan GT-R, but Nissan dropped the Skyline name from that model. The R34’s boxy shape, round taillights, and tuner reputation helped make it an instantly recognizable cover car.
Underground was released in 2003, when the series shifted strongly toward licensed tuner cars, customization, vinyl graphics, and illegal night racing. Eddie’s car reflects that change more directly than the exotic sports cars emphasized by earlier Need for Speed games.
