Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed is the fifth installment in the series.
Electronic Arts released the game in 2000 after Need for Speed: High Stakes. It is commonly called Porsche 2000 in Europe and Need for Speed: Porsche in Germany and parts of Latin America. Despite those regional titles, it occupies the fifth position in the classic mainline sequence.
Unlike earlier entries, Porsche Unleashed focuses exclusively on Porsche vehicles. Its cars span the marque's history from the 1950 Porsche 356 through late-1990s models such as the 996-generation 911. The PC version included an Evolution mode that let players progress through Porsche history and a Factory Driver mode built around varied driving challenges.
The PlayStation and Windows editions were developed separately and differ in cars, tracks, handling, and features. The Windows version omitted conventional pursuit modes, while the PlayStation edition included a timed chase mode. These differences sometimes lead to confusion, but not about its series number: it is the fifth game.
