In “Zootopia,” police officer Judy Hopps is a rabbit.
Judy comes from Bunnyburrow, a rural community, and grows up determined to join the Zootopia Police Department. Her species is central to the story: rabbits are stereotyped as too small or gentle for police work, so Judy must overcome both physical and institutional doubts.
After graduating from the police academy, Judy becomes Zootopia’s first rabbit police officer. Chief Bogo initially assigns her to parking enforcement, but she pursues a missing-mammal case and eventually teams up with Nick Wilde, a fox. Their investigation exposes a conspiracy that makes predators appear savage.
A common mix-up is confusing Judy with Nick, who is a fox and her eventual police partner. Judy’s species also matters thematically: the film uses the city’s animal communities to explore prejudice, assumptions, and discrimination.
