In “Wolfwalkers,” the wolfwalker girl is named Mebh Óg MacTíre.
Mebh lives in the forest outside Kilkenny with her wolfwalker community and her mother, Moll. She befriends Robyn Goodfellowe, an English girl whose father has been ordered to eliminate the area’s wolves. Mebh introduces Robyn to the hidden world beyond the city walls and helps her understand the connection between humans and wolves.
A wolfwalker’s spirit can leave the human body during sleep and take the form of a wolf. After Robyn is bitten while caught in a wolf trap, she begins to undergo the same transformation. Mebh therefore becomes both Robyn’s friend and guide as the two girls try to find Mebh’s missing mother and protect the wolf pack.
The most likely confusion is between Mebh and Robyn. Robyn is the film’s human protagonist and apprentice hunter, while Mebh is the wolfwalker girl. Moll is Mebh’s mother, and Bill is Robyn’s father. The film was released in 2020 and is the final entry in Cartoon Saloon’s loosely connected Irish folklore trilogy.
