J.K. Rowling’s play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premiered in London in 2016.
The play opened at the Palace Theatre in London, with previews beginning in June 2016 and the official opening taking place on 30 July 2016. It was written by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany, and developed from a story by Rowling, Thorne, and Tiffany.
The story is set nineteen years after the main Harry Potter novels and follows Harry’s son Albus Severus Potter and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius Malfoy. The published script is presented as a play rather than as an eighth novel. A common dating mistake is to use 2017, when the Broadway production opened, but the original London production premiered in 2016.
