In which year did J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows become the fastest-selling book in the UK?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows became the fastest-selling book in the United Kingdom in 2007.

The seventh and final Harry Potter novel was published on 21 July 2007. Bloomsbury reported exceptionally high first-day sales, and the book broke records in several English-speaking markets. It was the concluding volume of the main story about Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

The novel follows the trio as they search for Voldemort’s Horcruxes rather than attending Hogwarts in the usual way. Its climax takes place during the Battle of Hogwarts, which brings the central conflict to a conclusion.

The book was adapted into two films, released in 2010 and 2011. Splitting the adaptation allowed the filmmakers to include more of the final novel’s plot than a single film might have accommodated.
