Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has no specific city location in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter stories.
The school is located in the Scottish Highlands, in a remote mountainous area. Rowling deliberately presents Hogwarts as difficult for Muggles to find. Protective enchantments make the castle appear to non-magical people as dangerous ruins, while wizarding visitors can reach it through magical or concealed routes.
The novels provide a country and landscape rather than a named city. This is why London, Edinburgh, and Oxford are not correct answers, even though all three are important British places connected with the wider Harry Potter phenomenon. London contains the Ministry of Magic and King’s Cross Station’s hidden Platform 9¾, while Oxford locations inspired or appeared in film production.
Hogwarts is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. The school’s exact position remains intentionally vague, supporting its separation from ordinary British geography and helping preserve its secret-world atmosphere.
