Los Angeles served as the production location even though the story is primarily set in Rushville, Nebraska. This is common in television production: a series can use one city for sound stages, controlled locations, crew infrastructure, and visual stand-ins for another place.

Lanterns' story uses an American heartland setting and a neo-Western atmosphere, so the production had to create the appearance of rural Nebraska while working from its California base.
