Lanterns’ Rushville scenes were filmed in Piru, California.
Piru was used to represent the fictional Nebraska town of Rushville. Its main street doubled for the town’s downtown area, allowing the production to create a small American community without filming in Nebraska.
The production also built a diner in Piru for scenes set in Rushville. The wardrobe department was located in the town’s Corazon de Piru business, making the California location part of the series’ practical production base.
Lanterns was filmed in Los Angeles and at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank. Piru therefore served a different purpose from Burbank: it provided the exterior town setting, while the studio supported controlled interior and constructed-set work.
