In what year was Pixar's sequel Cars 2 released?

The story behind the answer

Pixar released Cars 2 in 2011.

Cars 2 is the second feature in the Cars franchise and was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. The story expands beyond Radiator Springs as Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, an international race created to promote a new alternative fuel. Mater becomes involved in an espionage plot after British agents mistake his clumsy behavior for expert undercover work.

The sequel differs from the original film by emphasizing international travel, action, and spy-movie conventions. Locations include Tokyo, Porto Corso, and London. Several returning characters accompany McQueen, while Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell serve as central spy characters.

Cars 2 was released in both conventional theaters and Disney Digital 3-D. It was followed by Cars 3 in 2017. Although the sequel received a more mixed critical response than the first film, it broadened the franchise's world and introduced a larger cast of vehicles from different countries.
