Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was released in cinemas in 2008.
The film is the second main entry in DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar series. It follows Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria and the penguins after their attempted journey back to New York takes them to the African mainland instead. There, Alex meets his parents and learns more about his origins.
The sequel followed the original Madagascar, which premiered in 2005, and preceded Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, released in 2012. The title refers to the animals’ arrival in Africa, although the story also includes the return journey from Madagascar.
A common mix-up is confusing the film’s release year with that of the first movie or the third movie. The three main films were released in 2005, 2008 and 2012, respectively. Escape 2 Africa was directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath and features the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith.
