Which song does the lemur king perform in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa?

King Julien performs “I Like to Move It” in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. The scene turns the song into a large celebratory dance number involving the film’s lemurs and other characters.

The song was originally recorded by Reel 2 Real featuring The Mad Stuntman and released in 1993. Its inclusion in the Madagascar franchise became one of the series’ most recognizable musical signatures, especially through Julien’s enthusiastic performance.

The song first appeared in the original Madagascar film, so Escape 2 Africa did not introduce it to the franchise. The sequel reused the musical identity in a new setting and with a larger comic spectacle.

A common mix-up is attributing the performance to the film’s zoo animals. The featured performer is King Julien, whose voice and dance style make the sequence distinct from the other soundtrack moments.
