J.K. Rowling’s authorship of The Cuckoo’s Calling was revealed in 2013.
The novel had been published in April 2013 under the name Robert Galbraith. Its identity was kept secret so the book could establish itself as a crime novel without the immediate commercial and critical pressure attached to Rowling’s name.
A Sunday Times investigation reported in July 2013 that Rowling was the author. The claim was followed by confirmation from Rowling’s representatives. The revelation caused sales of the novel to rise sharply, and publishers then issued editions acknowledging Rowling’s connection to Robert Galbraith.
The disclosure is separate from the later decision to continue using the Galbraith name as the credited author. Rowling has published subsequent Cormoran Strike books under that pseudonym, preserving the series’ distinct crime-fiction identity.
