J.K. Rowling was publicly identified as the author behind Robert Galbraith in 2013.
The revelation followed the publication of The Cuckoo’s Calling, a crime novel credited to Robert Galbraith. The book had initially been presented as the work of a new writer. A linguistic analysis by Professor Patrick Juola found similarities between the novel and writing by Rowling, among other authors examined.
A Sunday Times report then identified Rowling as Galbraith. The story became public in July 2013, and Rowling’s publishers confirmed that she had written the novel. The disclosure increased attention and sales for The Cuckoo’s Calling while also prompting discussion about anonymity, authorship and publishing expectations.
Rowling continued using Robert Galbraith as the credited author for the Cormoran Strike series. The pseudonym therefore remained part of the books’ public identity even after the person behind it was known. The year is 2013, not 2012, when The Casual Vacancy appeared under Rowling’s own name.
