In what year did "The Jetsons" first air?
Answer
1962
Answer
1962
The Jetsons first aired in 1962.
Hanna-Barbera’s The Jetsons premiered on ABC on September 23, 1962, presenting a comic vision of life in the future. It was designed as a space-age counterpart to The Flintstones: where the Flintstones spoofed prehistoric life, the Jetsons spoofed modern suburban life through robots, flying cars, video calls, and automated homes.
The original prime-time run lasted from September 1962 to March 1963 and contained 24 episodes. Although the show was not an immediate ratings success, reruns kept the characters visible, especially after the series moved into Saturday-morning television schedules. New episodes were later produced for syndication in the 1980s.
The show’s debut is also notable technically: it was ABC’s first program broadcast in color, at a time when relatively few ABC affiliates had color-broadcasting capability. Because later episodes and revivals appeared decades afterward, viewers sometimes mistake the 1980s production period for the series’ original launch.
