Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer in 1976. They established the company on April 1, 1976, with Ronald Wayne briefly joining as a third co-founder.
The partnership grew from the Apple I computer, which Wozniak designed and built largely by himself. Jobs recognized the commercial potential of selling a completed computer rather than only sharing its design. The Apple I was introduced through the Homebrew Computer Club in California.
Apple was initially operated from Jobs's family home and garage, although the popular “garage” story simplifies a more complicated early history. The company was incorporated in January 1977 as Apple Computer, Inc. Its second product, the Apple II, turned the young business into a major personal-computer company.
