In what year did Pixar release Cars 2?

The story behind the answer

Pixar released Cars 2 in 2011.

The sequel premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on June 18, 2011, and opened in the United States on June 24, 2011. It was the twelfth Pixar feature film and the second movie in the Cars franchise.

Cars 2 shifts much of its focus from stock-car racing to international espionage. Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes involved in a spy adventure involving secret agents and a conspiracy connected to alternative fuel.

John Lasseter directed Cars 2 with Brad Lewis as co-director. Unlike the first film, whose main setting is the American Southwest, the sequel visits locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. Cars 3 later returned the series to a more traditional racing-centered story.
