J.K. Rowling launched the interactive Harry Potter website Pottermore in 2011.
The site was announced in June 2011 and opened to selected early users before a broader public launch. It combined digital editions of the novels with interactive features, including house sorting, wand selection, quizzes, and new writing by Rowling about the wizarding world.
Pottermore was developed with Sony and became an important early attempt to extend a major book franchise through an official digital platform. Rowling used it to publish background information that was not included in the seven novels.
The site later changed direction and was renamed Wizarding World Digital in 2019. Although the branding evolved, Pottermore remains significant as the original official online home for Rowling’s additional wizarding-world material and interactive reader experiences.
