In what year did Bob Marley marry Rita Anderson?
Answer
1966
Answer
1966
Bob Marley married Rita Anderson in 1966. The ceremony took place in Kingston, Jamaica, on 10 February 1966, shortly before Marley travelled to the United States for several months to work and earn money.
Rita, born Alfarita Constantia Anderson, was already a singer and had performed with the vocal group the Soulettes. Her marriage to Marley became both a personal and musical partnership. She later joined the I Threes alongside Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt, providing backing vocals for Bob Marley and the Wailers during their international breakthrough.
The marriage year is sometimes confused with the years of major Marley milestones that followed. Their daughter Cedella was born in 1967, Ziggy in 1968, and Stephen in 1972. Rita also had children from other relationships whom Bob adopted as his own. She continued managing aspects of Marley’s legacy after his death in 1981 and became a prominent singer, philanthropist, and custodian of his musical heritage.
