Amazon acquired the Shark Tank company Ring in 2018.
Ring was founded by entrepreneur Jamie Siminoff as a company developing connected doorbells and home-security products. The business became widely known after appearing on Shark Tank, where Siminoff presented an earlier version of the product and did not complete a deal with the panel at the time.
Amazon announced its acquisition of Ring in 2018. The transaction connected Ring’s video doorbells and security cameras with Amazon’s broader smart-home ecosystem, including products and services associated with Alexa.
The acquisition year is sometimes mixed up with the company’s Shark Tank appearance or with the earlier year in which the company changed its name. Those are separate milestones: the television appearance came before the Amazon purchase.
