Airbus ended production of the A380 in 2021.
The final A380 was delivered to Emirates in December 2021, marking the end of assembly for the world’s largest passenger airliner. Airbus had announced the production decision in 2019 after orders slowed and airlines increasingly favored smaller, more fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft.
The A380 program began commercial service in 2007 and accumulated more than 250 deliveries. Its enormous capacity made it attractive on busy routes, but its size limited the number of airports and city pairs where it could operate profitably.
Ending production did not end A380 flights. Emirates and several other airlines continued operating the type, and many returned aircraft to service after pandemic-era groundings. Production ending and passenger operations ending are therefore separate events.
