In what month and year did Bob Iger confirm Toy Story 5 was in active development?

Bob Iger confirmed that Toy Story 5 was in active development in February 2023. The Disney chief executive made the announcement during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on February 8, placing the sequel among Disney’s planned returns to major animated franchises.

The announcement grouped Toy Story 5 with new installments of Frozen and Zootopia. It came as Disney emphasized its established brands and sought to rebuild momentum around familiar properties. The news also gave the project a formal status beyond earlier speculation: Pixar was actively developing a fifth mainline Toy Story film.

Fans sometimes confuse February 2023 with June 2023, when Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter confirmed Woody’s return. May 2019 was earlier, when Pixar was still not ruling out another Toy Story film after Toy Story 4. August 2024 was later associated with announcements about Andrew Stanton’s involvement. Toy Story 5 was ultimately scheduled for a 2026 theatrical release.
