James leads the familiar Team Rocket trio alongside Jessie and Meowth in the Pokémon TV series. The trio repeatedly attempts to capture Ash's Pikachu for their organization, usually with plans that end in failure.
Jessie and James are human members of Team Rocket, while Meowth is a talking Pokémon who travels with them. Their partnership became one of the show's longest-running comic storylines. Although they are antagonists, their loyalty to one another and their occasional acts of kindness give them more personality than ordinary villains.
James should not be confused with Giovanni, the overall boss of Team Rocket, or with other recurring members such as Butch and Cassidy. The trio's distinctive motto, disguises, machines, and exaggerated schemes made them central supporting characters in the early anime.
