In the Pokémon TV series, Meowth’s unusual ability is human speech.
Unlike most Pokémon, Team Rocket’s Meowth can speak fluently in human language. The anime explains that he taught himself to talk after falling in love with a female Meowth named Meowzie. He tried to impress her by imitating human behavior, but she rejected him because she considered him strange.
Meowth’s speaking ability becomes central to Team Rocket’s comic role. He frequently translates what other Pokémon say for Jessie and James, while also planning schemes and arguing with his partners. His ability is a learned skill rather than a standard power listed for the Meowth species.
This fact is sometimes confused with telepathy, which appears in other Pokémon stories. Meowth is not generally presented as telepathic; he physically speaks human language through training.
