In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, who plays Éowyn?

The story behind the answer

In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Miranda Otto plays Éowyn.

Éowyn is a noblewoman of Rohan and the niece of King Théoden. She is frustrated by the expectation that she must remain behind while others fight, but she ultimately disguises herself as a soldier named Dernhelm and rides to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

At that battle, Éowyn helps defeat the Witch-king of Angmar after he declares that no living man can kill him. Her action fulfills the scene’s famous reversal because she is not a man. She also develops a relationship with Faramir after the war.

Miranda Otto’s performance is associated especially with Éowyn’s determination and the character’s battlefield climax. Liv Tyler plays Arwen, Cate Blanchett plays Galadriel, and Rosamund Pike does not portray a principal role in this trilogy.
