Cate Blanchett plays the Elven queen Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Galadriel is the Lady of Lothlórien and one of the most powerful Elves remaining in Middle-earth. She receives the Fellowship after their journey through Moria and offers them shelter, guidance, and gifts before they continue down the Anduin.
Blanchett appears as Galadriel in all three films. The character also provides the opening narration of The Fellowship of the Ring, explaining the creation and distribution of the Rings of Power and the rise of Sauron. Her scenes emphasize both her wisdom and the danger posed by the One Ring.
Galadriel is sometimes confused with Arwen, another prominent Elf in the trilogy. Arwen is played by Liv Tyler and is the daughter of Elrond. Galadriel is the wife of Celeborn and the grandmother of Arwen through her daughter Celebrían.
