In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, what is Aragorn’s sword called after it is reforged?

The story behind the answer

In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn’s reforged sword is called Andúril.

Andúril is made from the shards of Narsil, the sword that Isildur used to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand at the end of the Second Age. In the film trilogy, the sword is reforged before Aragorn fully accepts his royal heritage and the responsibilities connected with it.

The name Andúril is translated as “Flame of the West.” It is a symbol of the kings of Gondor and of Aragorn’s descent from Isildur. The films show the sword as an important visual marker of Aragorn’s transformation from wandering ranger to claimant of the throne.

Viewers sometimes confuse Andúril with Narsil. Narsil is the original broken sword; Andúril is the reforged weapon. Glamdring belongs to Gandalf, while Sting is Bilbo and Frodo’s small Elvish blade.
