In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, what is the name of the Steward of Gondor’s younger son?

The story behind the answer

In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the Steward of Gondor’s younger son is Faramir.

Faramir is the younger son of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor, and the brother of Boromir. He commands Gondorian soldiers and appears as a thoughtful, disciplined leader during the war against Sauron. David Wenham plays Faramir in the film trilogy.

Faramir’s relationship with his father is strained because Denethor favors Boromir. In the films, this conflict is especially visible when Denethor sends Faramir to retake Osgiliath despite the danger. Faramir later becomes associated with Éowyn after the war.

Boromir is Faramir’s older brother, while Denethor is their father. These family relationships are sometimes confused because all three are central to Gondor’s storyline.
