Elijah Wood plays Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Wood was cast as the hobbit who inherits the One Ring and begins the journey to destroy it. Frodo is the central viewpoint character in the trilogy, and Wood appears throughout all three theatrical films. His performance depicts Frodo’s gradual movement from an ordinary resident of the Shire to a burdened Ring-bearer facing increasingly dangerous choices.
Wood was already a working actor before the trilogy, with roles in films including The Good Son and Deep Impact. The Lord of the Rings brought him international recognition and established him as one of the best-known actors associated with modern fantasy cinema.
Frodo is sometimes confused with Samwise Gamgee, his closest companion. Sean Astin plays Sam, while Wood plays Frodo. The character is also distinct from Bilbo Baggins, played by Ian Holm in the trilogy’s main timeline.
