Frodo’s loyal gardener and companion in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy is Samwise Gamgee.
Sam begins the story as Frodo’s gardener at Bag End in Hobbiton. After overhearing Gandalf and Frodo discussing the Ring, he becomes part of the journey and eventually travels with Frodo into Mordor. His practical skills, courage, and loyalty repeatedly help the quest survive.
Sean Astin played Sam in all three films. The character carries much of the emotional weight of the final stages of the story, especially when Frodo can no longer continue under his own strength. Sam’s statement that he can carry Frodo, but not the Ring, captures the distinction between physical support and the burden of the Ring itself.
Sam is sometimes confused with Merry or Pippin, the other prominent hobbits in the Fellowship. Unlike them, Sam is Frodo’s servant at the beginning and remains his closest companion throughout the quest.
