Yeon Sang-ho directed Seoul Station, the 2016 animated prequel to Train to Busan.
Seoul Station depicts a zombie outbreak spreading through the area around Seoul Station and follows several civilians trying to survive as authorities struggle to respond. It was made as an animated film, contrasting with the live-action Train to Busan, which was released the same year.
Yeon Sang-ho wrote and directed both films, linking their fictional outbreak worlds. Seoul Station focuses on different characters and events, while Train to Busan follows passengers trapped aboard a high-speed train traveling from Seoul toward Busan.
The film is also significant within Yeon’s career because he had previously directed animated features, including The King of Pigs and The Fake. A frequent mistake is to attribute Seoul Station to another major South Korean genre director, such as Bong Joon-ho; however, Yeon Sang-ho is the credited director of both connected zombie films.
