In the 2016 film Train to Busan, what city is the train travelling toward?

The story behind the answer

In the 2016 film Train to Busan, the train is travelling toward Busan.

The South Korean action-horror film follows fund manager Seok-woo and his daughter Su-an as they board a KTX high-speed train from Seoul to Busan. Soon after departure, a zombie outbreak spreads through the train, turning the journey into a series of tense attempts to reach safer carriages.

Busan is South Korea’s major port city and the destination named in the film’s title. The limited space of the train gives the story a distinctive structure: characters must manage doors, compartments, tunnels, stations, and moving crowds rather than open streets alone.

The film was directed by Yeon Sang-ho and became a major international success. It was followed by the animated prequel Seoul Station and the live-action sequel Peninsula, but neither changes the original train’s destination.
